We are pleased to bring you another new talented artist...

Natalie Hansen is a Mixed Media Artist living in Lodi, California. She and her "hunky firefighter" husband have been married for nearly 26 years and have one adult son, Alex. Natalie and her hubby currently live with their adorable fur-child Finn, a sweet wire haired terrier!

From paper arts and painting to creating jewelry, creativity has been something that has been a part of Natalie's life since she was a small child. Having spent the last year focusing on treatment for breast cancer, she loves to include inspirational words and sayings in her work.

Natalie has been published in several Somerset publications, including the recent Spring edition of Jewelry Affaire. Feel free to get to know her, and look at some of her work on her blog.

A Folk Artist Who Likes to Mix it Up!

Folk Artist Iva Wilcox

Iva Wilcox (pronounced "ee-va" for her Serbian heritage) is an artist who loves to mix things up. She moves easily from watercolors and mixed media to paper mache and jewelry. It keeps things fresh, she says.

"I like working in different mediums, because it's like layers on a cake," she explains. "Each technique builds on another and I end up using many of them in one project. I always have a number of pieces in the works, whether it be a painting or a sculpture."

As Iva says, the story of her creative beginnings is not a new one. She has always loved antiques, toys from a bygone era, vintage clothing, Victorian homes and, as she terms it, "all things old and musty." It's what she does with all those found objects and inspiring images that makes her art unique.

"I am passionate about Halloween, and you never know what I will turn to in order to express my love for the holiday. I enjoy watercolor painting, mixed media collage, paper arts and paper mache," she says.

Iva has been published many times in the Stampington & Company family of magazines, including the past several Halloween issues of Somerset Studio and Holidays & Celebrations. She also loves creating art with a French flair and was honored to be included in the specialty Marie, magazine the publishing company produced several years ago. She's been featured in the local newspaper as well as in the San Francisco Examiner.

As if that's not enough, Iva also teaches classes in Northern California - her home is there in Danville, and in the Southern part of the state's Orange County. "I'm passionate about what I do, and I enjoy sharing my love of the craft with others," she admits.

"But no matter what the medium, I strive for the look of a well-loved toy or a long lost treasure."

Debby Anderson is a jewelry artist who creates full time in her home studio in San Francisco.

She has been a collector of vintage jewelry for many years ~ which inspired her to create her own jewelry collection known as Romancing the Bling.

Debby is a huge romantic and her jewelry line reflects the romantic, timeworn elegance of yesteryear. The Art Deco/Nouveau Era has had a huge influence in how she designs and creates her one of a kind pieces ~ marrying old and new components (making new look old).

She also designs and creates one of a kind vintage wedding accessories ~ which are also sold in her online Etsy Shop.

Debby is very honored to have had four pieces featured in the April 2011 edition of Jewelry Affaire Magazine by Stampington & Co. and her wedding jewelry was featured during a wedding segment on The Today Show, September 8, 2010

One of the new artists who will be at Tinsel and Treasures this year is Michelle Legler. Her unique mosaic art will add another bit of "special" to the show.

Michelle Legler is a mosaic artist living in sunny Arizona. She is the mother of 4 beautiful daughters, 2 chunky pugs and wife to a loving husband.

She is obsessed with gardening, decorating and recycling junque into beautiful works of art……especially dishes into mosaics! Mosaic cupcakes and cakes are her specialty, but she is always dreaming up new mosaic creations.

Let Your Creativity Unfold with Make & Takes at the Show!

Join Artist Dede Warren for one or all of three Make-and-Take art projects created exclusively for the Fourth Annual Tinsel and Treasures Folk Art show, Saturday, September 10, 2011. Pull up an open chair, select the projects you'd like to make, and let your creativity unfold!
Everything you need to complete the projects will be on hand. They are perfect for all skill levels, and children 12 and older are welcome to join in the fun. Kits are available for purchase, and with a few basics items from home, you can complete these with the instructions included. Shop during the first hour of the show, and then stay and enjoy the energy of making art for the rest of the day! You can come away with three different projects made by you, as well as one of a kind works from our show artists.

Each project is one hour long, costs $18 or $28 depending on the project, and all supplies are included. To reserve your kit at a project table, select the Paypal button that corresponds to the project photo you would like to make. Tinsel and Treasures Art Journal

Come join us for a day full of fun and create an altered book filled with new pages that can be used to hold your holiday photos, to work in as an art journal, or simply to jot down your secret thoughts. We will begin with a discarded library book and embellish it with all the treasures we love; paper, ribbons and lace, millinery flowers, old photos and a dash of glitter! With much of the prep work done for you, this will be an fun easy project for even the beginning artist. Dede will bring a variety of paints, photos and trims ensuring that no two books will be exactly alike as you learn to create your own one-of-a-kind altered journal.

Robin Kelso

Playing with clay to create whimsical and unique characters and creatures has always been Robin's favorite manner of artistic expression.

Beginning in the mud and sand of Southern California backyards and beaches and using natural and found objects for embellishment, she designed storylines to play with her toys. Formal artistic education at USC widened her knowledge of styles and mediums but 3D art has always remained her favorite.

She molds, sculpts, and carves in all forms of clay from porcelain to paper as she creates characters that are often quirky and always fun.

What is a Bon Vivante you ask? The official definition is:

Thanks to all of you, our first annual Tinsel and Treasures Fanciful Folk art show was a success in 2008. It was so nice to see all of our collectors and many new faces. My heartfelt thank you to all our talented artists. I am priveledged to call them my friends. Gina Gabriell of Elevenmorning, Colleen Moody, Sylvia Anderson, Connie Govea Stuart, Donna O'Brien of The Ribboned Crown and Ulla Milbrath are inspirations to us all! Of course, I was there too with my Iva's Creations Halloween Caravan!

I also want to extend a special thank you to Heather Bullard for taking such lovely pictures of the event!
