Blooming with Whimsical Creations

If you're looking for just the right serving piece to celebrate a holiday or special occasion, the bold designs of Sharon Bloom create just the right backdrop. Sharon is a new addition to the show this year. Her one-of-a-kind creations make it easy to enjoy an artful life in the kitchen or any part of the house.

Having a passion for painting and a paintbrush in hand most of the time, Sharon creates her whimsical ceramics from her California home. Inspiration comes as naturally as the change of seasons with all its varied colors and patterns. Although Halloween is her favorite holiday, she finds great joy in creating designs for the rest of the year.

After earning her art degree in painting, Sharon continued her creative journey that led to other painted surfaces from canvas to clay. Hand painted plates and other ceramic wares came soon after. With an endless flow of ideas, she loves to doodle in sketchbooks before the idea rapidly unfolds into another. Her affinity with cats and other animals is also a constant source of curiosity.

Sharon believes that living a creative life and sharing her artwork with the world is the best part of being an artist.

Creating from the Land of Enchantment

It's easy to see that Debrina Pratt adores creating a world full of light-hearted whimsy.  She and her Land of Enchantment will be joining the artisans of the Fifth Annual Tinsel and Treasures Folk Art Show, Sept. 15, 2012.

One glance at Debrina’s captivating creations and you’ve entered the realm where fairies dwell. Her wee magical creatures peer out from old bottles, tuck in tiny shadowboxes, herald their stories from atop toy size wooden blocks, and adorn pendants and charms with a glorious style that is all hers.

Her one of a kind creations have the lustrous patina of age, but are completely fresh in their bright interpretations. Debrina uses old photos, millinery flowers, tiny beaded flourishes, Swarovski crystals and wee bits of magic to tell her fairy tales. With a fanciful dose of imagination, her work begs our appreciation for a gentle and tiny world filled with sweet sentiments.

Mark your calendar to meet this Earth Angels Toys artist first-hand and step into her wonderful world of art that only she can create.  You can read more about Debrina on her blog: PaperFairyTale.blogspot.com .

Creating Art On the Good Ship Lolipop

We're pleased to welcome Amelia Schaefer, who will be a new face at the show this year. Although she's new to Tinsel and Treasures, Amelia is hardly a newcomer when it has to do with creating and selling her art. She is a regular participating artist at the folk art show Halloween and Vine, and sells her work online at various online venues, including the EHAG Emporium. Her love affair with sugary confections is expressed in unusual ways.

Some babies are born with a silver spoon in their mouths; Amelia Schaefer of Sweet B Folk Art was born with a Sweet tooth in hers!

Enamored of all things frosted, sprinkled, and candy coated, Amelia has been creating candy inspired art for as long as she can remember.

Originally from New Zealand, Amelia now lives in Phoenix Arizona with her husband, two young boys and new baby girl. Vintage inspired candy containers, candy jars, paper mache sculpture, and signature “lollipop men” are often reflective of her passion for candy and sweets.

In Amelia’s world anthropomorphic cupcakes defend themselves with tiny knives and forks, lollipops smile sweetly, and you had better bite the cookie before it bites you!

It's All About Joy When This Artist Creates

A new face to the show this year is Jenny Hernandez, a folk artist living in the beautiful mountains of Northern Arizona. She creates under the name the Polka Dot Pixie, and her whimsical sculptures are a delight to see!

Inspired by fairy tales, nursery rhymes and all things nostalgic, Jenny creates whimsical three dimensional mixed media figures that capture the essence and magic of “story”. Because she is
filled with so much joy when sculpting, Jenny hopes her happy reflections are transferred to all that view her completed works.

Jenny loves to share her techniques and has taught paper clay
workshops on both US coasts.

Her work has been published in Art Doll's Quarterly, Celebrate 365 and Better Homes and Garden's Holiday Crafts. You can read more about her on her blog: thepolkadotpixie.blogspot.com/.

A Perfect Blue Rabbit Leads to a Lifetime of Art

New to the show this year is local artist Denise Kendig, who has been honing her craft ever since she was a toddler.

Denise began creating art as soon as she could hold her Crayola Crayons. At three years old, she drew and colored a perfect blue rabbit. Her mother made sure from that day on she was never without art supplies.

Her beginnings in fine arts let her to fall in love with watercolor and in turn, illustration. Her love of nature and the animal kingdom inspire her art from hand painted pens to stuffed bears with heart shaped noses. "That's their kissable spot!" she says.

Her work includes collage, jewelry, photography, up-cycled art from antiques and the pastry arts.

You can read more about Denise on her blog: http://sparrowsongs.blogspot.com  or you can check out her Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/sparrowsongs.

Anna Corba Brings French Inspired Paper Creations

If you've marked your calendar for the show on September 15, you'll find a table full of lovely, french inspired creations from Anna Corba. She shares her love of all things vintage and French in her collaged paper creations.

Her work ranges from petite canvases and beribboned garlands to embellished candles and crystal pendants.  Anna is the author of the newly released 'Doodling in French' (Chronicle Books).

"When I looked around my studio for those first little images to draw, what did I see but so many things from my travels to France," she says. "A latte bowl, a fleur de lys covered pastry bag, a stack of cartes postales. It took a few afternoons to realize what I was up to, but it eventually dawned on me that I was doodling in French. Aha! A book of my own was born, one which became a labor of love from that moment forward."

In addition to her newly released book, Anna has been selling her product line to specialty shops nationwide for the past decade.  She has been featured in numerous publications including Country Living, Romantic Homes and Victoria magazine. Anna has recently expanded into teaching and leads workshops in her Sonoma County studio, as well as in southern France.
